Amount indicates the amount of force the waves exert on the image, while the X Offset and Y Offset settings affect the location of the center of the effect to pinch to. Periods in Waves signifies the number of ripples in the radius. The waves can remain constant, or fall off as they travel away from the center of the effect. The Waves Diminish: setting affects this fall-off.
