The Sharpen filter works as the opposite of the Blur filter. Instead of making lines and contrast less distinctive, as the Blur filter does, Sharpen makes more detail in these areas. Note that using a Sharpen that's too strong can often have unsatisfactory results.
The Filter Size setting determines how far the filter should look from the current pixel for edges and areas of contrast. The Intensity setting determines how strongly the effect is applied.
