The Sharpen Edges filter works much like the Sharpen filter, except that it tries to be smarter about the areas that it sharpens. Rather than trying to sharpen large areas of solid color with no edges and/or areas of contrast, the Sharpen Edges filter concentrates just on sharpening the edges in the picture. This results in a cleaner looking image with less artifacts left over from the sharpen process.
The Filter Size setting determines how far the filter should look from the current pixel for edges and areas of contrast. The Intensity setting determines how strongly the effect is applied.
